Very interesting stuff! Hoping that one of your future blogs will address my problem, bunions. I only have one and it rarely bothers me but I noticed that its getting worse. Walking on irregular surfaces like the beach really aggrevate it, but I have more good days than bad. What would you recommend?
Hi John, thanks for reading my new blog!
I will post a case of a bunion very soon. I do bunion surgery pretty much every Friday… I’ll post a case when a patient comes in and I take some photos. I may even get to it this afternoon as I have a young lady who had bunion surgery 5 days ago coming in for her postoperative visit later.
To answer your question, I am conservative when it comes to bunion surgery. I often advise my patients not to have surgery unless you get to the point where you either can’t fit into the shoes you want to, can’t do the activities you want to, or have regular pain with daily activities. I can be talking into doing some bunion surgery for cosmetic reasons but I always advise the patients to seriously consider it first. In my residency I trained with plastic surgeons who taught me all the tricks to making incisions heal with little to no scars.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for a post on bunion surgery! Lawrence
Hey Dr. Silverberg! Cool blog. I like that you provided some background about yourself in this first post. I also like the pictures and discussions of how you’re helping people get back on their feet. Good work!
